If you’re planning a wedding in the city, one of your first questions is probably: What is the average wedding cost in Boston? Recent local data puts the average around $52,000, but the actual amount you spend can vary significantly depending on many things like your guest count, venue, season, and what matters most to you.
As a Boston wedding photographer with more than a decade of experience photographing weddings throughout Boston and New England, I’ve seen everything from intimate restaurant celebrations to large estate weddings. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that there really isn’t one “right” amount to spend on your wedding.
Let’s talk about what actually goes into a Boston wedding cost and how you can create a day that feels like you without spending money on things you don’t really care about.

What is the Average Wedding Cost in Boston?
According to recent data from The Wedding Report, the average Boston wedding cost for the Boston-Cambridge-Newton area was approximately $52,184 in 2025.
That number needs a little context, though!
The same data reports a median wedding spend of $20,924, meaning half of couples spent less than that amount. The large difference between the median and average shows just how widely wedding budgets can vary from couple to couple.
Guest count is one of the biggest factors you have to consider. A celebration for 50 people will naturally look very different financially from one for 200.
Your venue, catering, photography, entertainment, florals, attire, rentals, transportation, and other details will all influence the final average cost of a wedding in Boston.
What Makes a Boston Wedding Cost More?
Boston is an incredible place to get married, but city weddings come with a few logistical considerations that can affect your budget.
Your venue and catering will typically represent a significant portion of your overall spending. You may also need to consider transportation, accommodations, and rentals depending on where you celebrate.
And please, don’t forget to think about parking!
Consider not only where your guests will park, but also how your vendors will get to your venue and whether they’ll need to pay for parking or load equipment in a busy part of the city.
This is especially important if your big day includes multiple locations. Trust me, Boston traffic is not something you want to discover you underestimated on your wedding day!
If you’re still figuring out the logistics, my complete guide to getting married in Boston covers everything from marriage licenses to choosing locations and planning your timeline.

Consider a Boston Restaurant Wedding
One of my favorite options for smaller weddings is a restaurant reception.
Boston has so many incredible restaurants, and choosing one can sometimes be more affordable than booking a traditional wedding venue.
Plus, you already know the food is going to be good!
Some restaurants worth considering include Rochambeau, Terra, Harvest, Branch Line, Bostonia Public House, Gufo, and 1928 Beacon Hill.
Restaurant weddings can work especially well when you want your day to feel intimate and centered around spending time with your favorite people.
Instead of filling a huge venue because you feel like you’re supposed to, you can gather your closest friends and family around an incredible meal and create an experience that feels completely personal.
Look Beyond Boston Proper
Cambridge and Somerville are also worth considering, especially if you’re open to a restaurant or hotel wedding. You can still get that city feel while potentially dealing with less traffic and easier parking.
If you’re willing to go a little farther outside Boston, you’ll find even more traditional wedding venue options.
If you’re willing to go a little farther, your options open up even more.
For example, Glen Magna Farms is a beautiful Massachusetts wedding venue with gorgeous historic architecture, sprawling gardens, and plenty of room for an elegant celebration outside the city.
Think about the overall experience you want rather than limiting your search to a specific zip code.

What is the Average Wedding Photographer Cost in Boston?
The average wedding photographer cost in Boston can vary significantly depending on experience, hours of coverage, whether you add a second photographer, albums, film photography, and the level of support you receive throughout the planning process.
Boston is one of the most expensive wedding markets in the country, and photography pricing reflects that. An experienced, mid-range Boston wedding photographer typically charges around $4,500–$7,000 for photography alone, while professional videography is a separate investment that can range from approximately $2,500–$8,000.
My wedding photography collections begin at $5,500, with most of my couples investing between $6,500 and $8,000. With 10 years of experience in the wedding industry and 14 years as a photographer, my role goes far beyond showing up with a camera on your wedding day.
I’m there throughout the process to help with timeline creation, location scouting, and all those little photography questions you may not even know you have yet. On the wedding day itself, you get a photographer who has seen a lot and knows how to give you direction when you need it, capture the candid moments happening around you, and help keep things moving so you can actually be present and enjoy your day.
My wedding collections start at six hours of coverage, a high-resolution online gallery with printing rights, timeline creation and location scouting, travel within 75 miles of Boston, and sneak peeks. Depending on what you envision for your day, you can also add an engagement session, second photographer, 35mm film, rehearsal dinner coverage, and heirloom albums or prints.
Ultimately, when you’re comparing photographers, I recommend looking beyond the price alone. Consider the experience, support, style, and level of service you’re receiving—and choose someone you trust to document your day in a way that feels like you.

Decide Where You Really Want to Invest
This is probably my biggest piece of wedding budgeting advice.
You do not have to prioritize every part of your wedding equally.
Maybe you’ve always dreamed of getting married at an incredible downtown Boston venue. Maybe flowers are your thing, and you want your ceremony to be covered in gorgeous blooms. Maybe you care more about hiring your dream photographer because you know your photographs are what you’ll have after the day is over.
Choose the things that are genuinely important to the two of you and give yourself permission to invest more heavily in those areas.
Then, look for places where you can simplify.
Your wedding does not need every detail you’ve ever seen on Pinterest or Instagram to be meaningful.

So, How Much Does a Wedding Cost in Boston?
The average wedding cost in Boston gives you a helpful starting point, but it shouldn’t dictate what you spend.
A Boston wedding could mean an intimate ceremony in the Public Garden followed by dinner at your favorite restaurant. It could mean 150 people celebrating in a historic downtown venue. Or it could mean leaving the city for a gorgeous estate surrounded by dreamy gardens.
All of those are Boston weddings, and all of them can have completely different budgets.
Focus first on how you want your wedding to feel. Decide who you truly want there and which parts of the experience matter most to you. Then you can build your budget around those priorities.
